Tilted Nose After Rhinoplasty (Inclined Nose), Is It Normal?
If you find your nose is ’tilted’ after rhinoplasty (3 to 6 months after surgery), even slightly, it may lead to several problems that need correcting in the future. If you had rhinoplasty elsewhere and find your nose is tilted, you may need to check it yourself and see an experienced surgeon to diagnose it and plan suitable correction based on the cause in each case.
After rhinoplasty, the nose should sit straight, not tilted
A tilted nose after rhinoplasty is not normal and should be corrected promptly
2 Main Causes of a Tilted Nose After Rhinoplasty
The main causes are:
- a surgeon with limited experience
- unsuitable self-care after rhinoplasty
1. Causes Related to a Surgeon With Limited Experience
An Already Tilted Nasal Base
Before rhinoplasty, the structure of your nasal base may already be tilted. After augmentation, the tilt may become more noticeable. This starts with the surgeon’s diagnosis and carries through to after the surgery.
Incorrect Placement of the Silicone Implant or Graft Material
If the surgeon places the silicone implant or graft material unevenly or off the line of the nose, there is a chance the nose will become tilted.
2. Causes Related to Unsuitable Self-Care
For example, a knock, pressure or accidentally sleeping on your side against the bridge of your nose during recovery or in daily life can also make the nose tilt. It can also happen when scar tissue forms around the silicone implant and makes it move, causing the nose to tilt.
Tilted Nose After Rhinoplasty, How Can It Be Corrected?
First, see an experienced surgeon to find the cause of the tilt and assess your nose. Correction differs from person to person (depending on the problem in each case). The surgeon will then schedule revision rhinoplasty and rebuild the nose structure.
If you notice your nose is tilted after rhinoplasty, see a surgeon as soon as possible for diagnosis and a correction plan. Avoid pushing, bending or squeezing your nose to move it back into position, as this may cause more trauma and lead to inflammation and infection.
