Back Pain After Breast Augmentation or Office Syndrome?
Back pain can have many causes, including office syndrome or pain in the same muscles over a long time that leads to inflammation.
‘The back pain cycle, easy to get into and hard to get out of’
Many people have ‘back pain’ that does not go away whatever they do. First, find the cause of the back pain and change your habits, and then the pain can improve. The exception is people whose back pain comes from health, muscle or nerve problems, who need treatment.
The Spine Is Made Up Of
- the cervical spine (neck)
- the thoracic spine (upper back)
- the lumbar spine (lower back)
- the sacrum
- the coccyx (tailbone)
- the facet joints
- the intervertebral discs
- the muscles
Causes of Back Pain and What Pain in Each Area Can Mean

- injury from activities or sport, or poor sleeping or sitting posture
- weak muscles or a weak spine
- bone deformities, such as a hunched back or a curved spine (scoliosis)
- age-related wear and tear
- accidents
- infection or inflammation of the spine
- illnesses such as an abdominal aortic aneurysm, pancreatitis, a kidney infection (pyelonephritis) and office syndrome
- breasts that are out of proportion with the body
- looking down at your phone or carrying a heavy bag for a long time, which can make your shoulders uneven or slumped and cause upper back pain
- bending to lift heavy objects with poor posture, which can cause middle back pain
- sleeping on a mattress that is too soft or too hard, which can cause middle back pain
- weight gain, which can cause lower back pain
- and other causes
As you can see, back pain has many causes, including office syndrome or long-term pain in the same muscles that leads to inflammation, such as in the back, neck, shoulders, upper arms and wrists.
It is most common in office workers, people who work at computers, women who wear high heels and stand for long periods, and people who stay in the same position for long periods with almost no change in posture during the day.
If your back pain comes from office syndrome, treatment can include massage, physiotherapy, and Thai traditional or modern medical treatment, together with changes to your habits, which can help it get better.
Breast augmentation can also cause back pain. It usually improves within 2 to 3 days. It can come from lying on your back for long periods during recovery, together with bandages or a compression bra that is too tight, and the added weight of the silicone implants.
Back Pain After Breast Augmentation Is Uncommon
Most of these effects also come from other habits, so watch for anything unusual, such as fever, fluid leaking from the wound, chest tightness, swelling or bruising. If this happens, contact the surgeon who did your operation for advice on further treatment.
Before breast augmentation, lower the chance of side effects by choosing a medical facility that meets standards and a surgeon with a good reputation, and follow the surgeon’s advice carefully
